Storytelling

Humans have been telling stories for as long as they have been human.  Storytelling originated with visual stories, for instance cave drawings, and then shifted to oral traditions, in which stories were passed down by word-of-mouth, often as a form of ritual. More recently oral narratives became including written, printed and typed stories.

Stories were once used to cement direct personal, tribal or community bonds, to share wisdom and to enforce unwritten laws. Technology has given us the power  to share stories across the globe in the blink of an eye.Around this global campfire stories may lose some of their power but what is gained is an understanding that their really are only a few stories and the power comes from these shared themes AND the local context where they are found.

Mount Wolfe Farm has been holding storytelling sessions as part of its Summer and Winter Solstice Celebrations (The picture above was at the Summer Solstice). At ORSN we recognise that storytelling is a skill that can be learned through practice and is essential in fostering local community connections.

Zoom-In

While we cannot physically gather during this time of lock-down due to COVID -19, we can come together online and tell stories. We are hosting a regular Friday evening storytelling session open to anyone.

Bring a story or come to listen. Some sessions we agree on themes to discuss, with resilience being a recurring one.
